Winterized Too Good

I went to start up my scooter today but didn't get very far.  I would have bet anyone $1000.00 that I left my scooter key in the ignition-the most practical spot ever-

Needless to say it was not there.  I have been looking around here for about 30 minutes and it hasn't jumped out at me yet. I am now turning my night into a key hunt with some good wine and good music.  I guess I winterized it a little too well.  A key purchase may be in my near future.  Maybe I will find it during my big move.  Is anyone playing a trick on me? I seriously thought it was in my scooter this whole winter. What a major buzz kill.
