Tagalongs are by far my favorite cookie of all time. No matter how sick I feel I can always still finish my third box in one sitting. I mean there is only 15 per box, they go down quick. I figured it was a blessing that they are not able to be purchased year round. Ya know, only when the girl scouts are outside of Walmart and you happen to have $3.50 on you? So I googled "home made Tagalongs" the other day.
I only made half of what the recipe called for. It was either because I was afraid they would be horrible and not live up to the true beauties, or that I would eat them all before bed, or that I only had 1 stick of butter and 1/2 tsp. of vanilla left and the recipe called for twice that amount. It started out just grand when I went to go get the 3 ingredients I needed.
1st ingredient needed- I forgot
2nd ingredient needed- What the heck is cocoa butter and where do you find it other than the lotion aisle??
3rd ingredient needed-I bought milk chocolate chips instead of semi-sweet.
Needless to say I had to sleep on all of this and wake up and make them on a fresh day without the embarrassment. And after I picked up peanut butter and realized that I could use vegetable oil instead of cocoa butter.
Besides the rich milk chocolate, they turned out amazing.
This is what the real deal looks like.
You don't need to tell me...I know they look good.
I can't believe I just did a whole post on Tagalong cookies.
